Things to do in Nyköping
Nyköpingshus castle
Walk the courtyard and ramparts and look up at Kungstornet, the white tower of the medieval castle by the river. Traces of the Renaissance palace that once stood here still remain.
Sörmlands museum
The county museum has exhibitions on Sörmland's history and current topics for all ages. The town's official guide recommends its lunches.
Riverside walk
Follow the Nyköpingsån through the centre to the harbour, which in summer has restaurants, ice-cream cafés, mini golf and a playground. For something greener, head north along the river to the Hållet nature reserve, 15 to 20 minutes from Stora torget.
Stendörren bridges
In the Stendörren nature reserve, on the coast between Nyköping and Trosa, suspension bridges take you out into the archipelago without a boat. There is a naturum visitor centre about the Baltic, rocks to swim from, and bus 554 runs from Nyköping station.

When to go
Best timeJune to August
That is when the summer harbour is busy with waterside restaurants and people swim off the rocks at Stendörren and Nävekvarn. The rest of the year the town is just as walkable, minus the harbour life.
